The Logan Street Market is an adaptive reuse and extensive interior & exterior renovation of an existing, pre-engineered, metal warehouse building to provide a new community hub and market. The market contains two floors of food and merchandise vending booths, event / performance areas, dining and food hub, beer brewery with full bar, demonstration kitchen, coffee bar, and small art gallery.
A new steel and concrete mezzanine was added within the existing building to maximize usable space. Façade and building envelope interventions allow for a variety of conditioned and fresh air spaces. New openings utilizing reclaimed, sliding, barn doors are cut into the existing exterior envelope to create a ‘fresh air’ vendor corridor. The thermal envelope is recessed into building and wraps the underside of the new mezzanine. This allows a more direct indoor / outdoor engagement while still providing health code compliance for the primary conditioned market space.
Internally, vendor booths are not overly predesigned. Booths are defined by a simple, minimal, cubic, steel frame. This defining frame act as an armature for vendors to customize and individualize their booths. They are arranged in rows along internal “streets” which connect various flexible activity areas functioning as a micro-city under one roof.
The larger goal of the project is to act as an incubator for area food and merchandise vendors with the hope that they may eventually establish a permanent storefront presence in the neighborhood. For more info check out www.loganstmarket.com
