Our goal for 701 Fish House & Oyster Bar was to create a much needed, premier dining destination on the edge of Elizabethtown, a rural community located 40 miles south of Louisville, Kentucky. The design is an expression of the owners' desire to create a unique, "high/low" dining concept with a menu that is sophisticated, yet approachable. It's a blend of southern coastal refinements and raw, industrial materials reminiscent of shipping yards with a nod to the area's agricultural roots. Due to the very limited budget and extremely tight time frame of 6 months from concept to completion, this "high/low" concept with DIY elements provided a great solution to fully transform the exterior and interior of the existing building. The main dining room provides a variety of flexible seating arrangement to accommodate 120 diners, a fully serviced oyster bar, and drink bar. A set of custom made, salvaged wood, barn doors can be closed to divide the space and provide a break-out dining room for private parties that accommodates 40 diners.
The second phase of the project provided a 140 person catering venue for receptions and parties.
